Objective: Quick, secure instructions to download, install, and log into Ledger Live (desktop & mobile) and add your first accounts — with security best practices.
Ledger Live is Ledger’s official companion app for managing crypto, NFTs and staking — available for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android. This guide focuses on the login and first‑time setup flow: download → connect device → create/restore → add accounts → confirm transactions. Follow the steps carefully and never share your Secret Recovery Phrase (SRP).
Always download Ledger Live from the official Ledger site or your device’s app store. For desktop go to ledger.com/ledger-live
; for mobile use the App Store or Google Play. Verify checksums if you want an extra safety step for desktop installers.
Run the installer and follow platform prompts. macOS users: allow the app in Security settings if macOS blocks it. Linux users: use the AppImage or your distro package if recommended. Mobile users: install the official Ledger Live app from the store and grant minimal permissions.
When Ledger Live opens click Get started. Select whether you’re setting up a new device or already have a recovery phrase to restore. If you already set up your hardware wallet elsewhere, choose "Restore device" and follow the prompts.
Connect with a genuine Ledger cable. For Nano X, you may pair by Bluetooth with the mobile app. Unlock the device (enter PIN) and allow Ledger Live to communicate when prompted.
Follow the device instructions to set a PIN and write down your 24‑word Secret Recovery Phrase on the recovery sheet. Store the sheet offline in a secure place. Ledger will never ask you for the full 24 words in the app — any request is a scam.
If restoring, select the appropriate size (12/24) and input your words on the device when requested. Ledger Live will then sync and import your accounts once the device is unlocked.
In Ledger Live click Accounts → Add account. Pick the cryptocurrency (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana etc.) and follow the prompts while your device is connected. Ledger Live syncs the blockchain and lists balances from on‑chain addresses derived from your seed.
There is no password login that reveals private keys — authorization always requires confirming actions on the physical device. When sending funds, Ledger Live prepares the transaction and your device displays the details for manual review and approval. Never approve a transaction that shows an unexpected address or amount.
No — Ledger Live manages accounts derived from a Ledger hardware wallet. Some read‑only features exist, but signing transactions requires the physical device.
Ledger Live shows updater prompts; you can also download the latest installer from the official Ledger Live download page. Verify checksum files for additional assurance.
